Advice for Mentors of Early Career Teachers

The Department for Education has shared advice from 4 school leaders on their approach to being a mentor for Early Career Teachers.

The mentor is a crucial role in the process of supporting and developing a new teacher in their initial two years in the profession. Generate Teaching Hub provides a package of training and resources to assist mentoring and maintain the standards required of the Early Career Framework.

The DfE blog covers four flexible was to make the ECF training work for the mentor and early career teachers:

  1. Responding to an ECT’s strength and areas for development.
  2. Revisiting and consolidating knowledge.
  3. Relating materials to the school context.
  4. Supporting the vital role of mentors.
