ECF Mentor Briefing January Update

This news page is for all experienced teachers and leaders registered as Early Career Mentors with Generate Teaching Hub.

Welcome to the brand new mentors who are joining us in our January 2024 Cohort!

As a mentor, you have your own programme of training and development to support you in your role.

Accessing the Handbook

The Mentor Handbook provides detailed information about the weekly (Year 1) and fortnightly (Year 2) interactions that should take place between you and your ECT. These are valuable opportunities to reflect on practice and guide your ECT with clear next steps.

Introducing the Mentor Programme

The Teach First ECF Mentor Programme is dedicated CPD for you.

Over the two years, you will develop a whole range of skills, as well as becoming familiar with the most up to date research and evidence base for teaching and learning. This is a great opportunity to be learning alongside your ECT.

In some cases, as a new mentor, you may be supporting a Year 2 ECT.

We understand that this can be a little confusing if you are completing Year 1 Mentor Training and your ECT is on Year 2 ECF training. Your school Induction Tutor will have a copy of the Teach First ECF Programme Guides for Year 1 and Year 2, which can support you in this. There are also short video clips on Brightspace, highlighting what your ECT has covered in their training.

As always, if you would like further support with this, do get in touch.

Don’t forget that there is still time to apply to complete a FULLY FUNDED NPQ!

The NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (or LTD for short) programme is perfect for mentors and those professionals who are passionate about teacher development.

Take a look NPQ Leading Teacher Development for more information.

The next fully funded course starts in February 2024 and the closing date for applications is 28th January 2024.

Subject & Leadership Specialist NPQs

For those mentors who are Early Years Leads, Literacy Leads or Primary Maths Leads there are also specific NPQs to support you in your role. Again, these are fully funded and are open to applications until 28th January, with a starting date of February 2024.
