Induction Tutor Updates

Thank you to all our Induction Tutors and schools who have now registered with ECT Manager to support the statutory induction of their ECT.  It was great to see so many of you at our Appropriate Body Welcome Briefing on 18th September.  If you were unable to attend and would like to know more about the statutory induction process and our Appropriate Body, do contact Cath O’Neill, our AB Coordinator, coneill@wpat.uk who will send you a recording of the session. 

In preparation for the completion of Progress Reviews and Formal Assessments at the end of this term, there will be a further Appropriate Body Briefing on 13th November at 3.30pm.  This will focus on good practice in completing AB paperwork and how to show that your ECT is making progress towards meeting the Teachers’ Standards (Teacher standards).  We look forward to seeing you then! 

We know that there are often staffing changes and role changes within our schools.  Please can you ensure that we have up to information on ECT Manager and that all names and contact details are correct.  If something does not look quite right on ECT Manager (eg contract details, dates etc) do let us know. 

Quality Assurance 

As an Appropriate Body, it is our statutory duty to quality assure at least 10% of our schools.  This is an opportunity for professional dialogue and support to ensure that all parties involved in the induction process are receiving their entitlements.  The visit will involve meetings with the Induction Tutor, mentors and ECTs and are an opportunity, not only for us to fulfil our statutory duties, but to find out more about the induction process in your school and for you to share with us the good practice that is taking place.  It also provides a useful platform for discussion and clarity around induction. It’s a privilege to come into schools and hear what induction is like ‘on the ground’ and schools often report that they found the process really helpful and supportive.  Should you be selected for a visit, we will contact you well in advance, to make arrangements. 

There are a wealth of resources in the ‘Resources’ section of ECT Manager to support schools through the induction process.  Along with the statutory guidance for induction Induction for early career teachers (England) statutory guidance (publishing.service.gov.uk) you should be able to find the answers to any induction queries.  However, we know that every ECT’s induction journey is unique to them so do get in touch if you require any support.

• These will be available on ECT Manager from 22nd November
