Recruiting for School Based Teacher Training
Generate Teaching Hub is open to receive final applications for its teacher training programme starting in September 2024.
School-Centred PGCE
We provide Primary 5-11 years, Primary with SEN and Primary 3-7 years routes in schools based within or near to the Warrington area. These are full time study routes with QTS and PGCE (accredited by Liverpool Hope University).
Teacher Apprenticeships
We are also able to offer Teaching Assistants a fully funded teacher training programme (subject to your employer’s Apprenticeship Levey and eligibility). On this route you can stay working in your school whilst training.
More details are available here or by contacting our recruitment team on teachertraining@wpat.uk
There are also several other local providers working in our area – listed here – please promote your local providers to any potential applicants.
Local ITT Peer Network 2024/25
Generate Teaching Hub facilitates a peer network for local providers of initial teacher training in schools. This is a participant led network to which all phases of training are welcome to this informal advice and support network. The dates for 2024/25 are being finalised along with the topics. Meetings will be hosted by different providers across Halton, Warrington and Wigan usually from 3.30 to 5pm on a weekday.
If you would like to know more or attend, please contact Linda Humphries via teachertraining@wpat.uk
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Podcast
Series 2 of NASBTT’s popular Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Podcast Series for Initial Teacher Training and Education is available online. Hosted by Hannah Wilson, Diverse Educators and James Coleman, NASBTT.
ITT Training Is Evolving
From September 2024 the trainee teaching year will see several structural changes.
One significant adaption will be the Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) weeks. These will be embedded in a trainee’s year and involve closer alignment of training and classroom practice.
Accredited ITT Providers are currently developing models for this new development opportunity and will be engaging their schools in finding suitable locations, redesigning training curriculum and seeking experts to enhance the learning.
The DfE have outlined the rationale and expectations of ITaPs to the development of new teachers here.
There will also be a requirement for ITT Approved Providers to conduct a pre-planned ITT Mentor training programme. Each provider will determine the content and methodology covering 20 hours over the first year for new mentors. Generate Teaching Hub is supporting providers to collaborate and recognise training from other providers. Contact your ITT provider for the latest information.
ITT Reform Funding
To support the implementation of changes to the initial teacher training year in 2024/25, the DfE have provided some additional funding. For postgraduate providers this includes:
- £9,514 per lead mentor.
- £204 per trainee for the intensive training and practice weeks.
- £876 per general school mentor
There are conditions of compliance attached to this funding and full details on eligibility and claiming processes are found here.
Schools that provide mentors and are partners in the delivery of initial teacher training should contact their accredited provider for guidance.
