ITT Training Is Evolving

From September 2024 the trainee teaching year will see several structural changes.

One significant adaption will be the Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) weeks. These will be embedded in a trainee’s year and involve closer alignment of training and classroom practice.

Accredited ITT Providers are currently developing models for this new development opportunity and will be engaging their schools in finding suitable locations, redesigning training curriculum and seeking experts to enhance the learning.

The DfE have outlined the rationale and expectations of ITaPs to the development of new teachers here

There will also be a requirement for ITT Approved Providers to conduct a pre-planned ITT Mentor training programme. Each provider will determine the content and methodology covering 20 hours over the first year for new mentors. Generate Teaching Hub is supporting providers to collaborate and recognise training from other providers. Contact your ITT provider for the latest information.

ITT Reform Funding

To support the implementation of changes to the initial teacher training year in 2024/25, the DfE have provided some additional funding Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Reform Funding Guidance (publishing.service.gov.uk)
Schools that provide mentors and are partners in the delivery of initial teacher training should contact their accredited provider for guidance.
