NW3 Maths Hub- HMI Hannah Stoten Head Teacher Briefing FREE MARCH 22
NW3 Maths Hub would like to offer all primary schools in Wigan the chance to attend a briefing with Hannah Stoten HMI, Lead Inspector for Mathematics.
The briefing will focus on the following:
- Intro and brief description of how Ofsted’s subject report (due out in summer) is being put together
- Different kinds of curriculum content in mathematics
- Beyond times tables: thinking about maths facts that pupils need
- Sequencing: it’s OK if we’re doing the same thing in class (and it’s OK to focus on mastering before moving on!)
- The different kinds of methods that pupils need
- Problem solving: something we can plan for and teach
- The two ways that understanding unfolds: through teacher’s explanations and through pupil rehearsal
- Different kinds of practice: why we need balance
- How mistakes and misconceptions require different responses
- Different kinds of maths tests for different purposes
- Transitions to KS3
- Summary points on ‘how to create successful and happy mathematicians’
This briefing will take place on Thursday 10th March, 4-5pm ONLINE (via Teams).
Target Audience: Head Teachers and Senior leaders of Primary Schools in Wigan.
The session is FREE OF CHARGE but must be booked in advance.
