SEND & AP Improvement Plan Published 2nd March 2023

The government has published its plan for SEND and AB improvement.

The paper covers a wide range of areas to meet the ambitions set out in last year’s green paper.

The report is also accompanied by a road map outlining some of the agreed actions.

For workforce development and leadership support, Chapter 4 sets out some announcements including:

• A new leadership level SENDCo NPQ for schools to replace the NASENCo qualification.
• Building teacher expertise through a review of the ITT and ECF frameworks.
• Funding up to 5,000 early years staff to gain an accredited Level 3 Early Years SENCo qualification to support the Early Years sector.
• The first three SEND and AP practice guides to be published by the end of 2025.

Further details, such as timeframes and procurement for SENDCo NPQ, are yet to be announced.
