Senior Mental Health Leader Grant

The Department for Education (DfE) has announced that schools can access a £1,200 grant for Senior Leader Mental Health training.

Grants will cover, or contribute towards, the cost of DfE quality assured training for a senior member of school or college staff. All state-funded education settings are eligible for the grant.

The training will develop the knowledge and skills to implement an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in their setting. The training course must be a DfE assured senior mental health lead training course.

Senior Mental Health Leader training is relevant to all education settings, and courses are available to meet the learning needs and preferences of senior leads regardless of their level of experience, type of setting or location.

The grant must be used to pay for DfE quality assured training. This training will provide a senior mental health lead in your setting with the knowledge and skills to implement and sustain a whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Schools can apply if:

  • They are ready to develop or implement a whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing.
  • They have a senior lead available to start the training by 31 March 2025.

State-funded settings are eligible for a grant if they receive:

  • Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) pre-16 revenue.
  • High needs block.
  • 16 to 19 programme funding.
