Senior Mental Health Lead Training
The Department for Education (DfE) is offering a senior member of school or college staff the opportunity to get a £1,200 grant, for training to develop the knowledge and skills to implement an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in their setting.
The grant is a contribution to the cost of training (£800) and the hiring of supply staff whilst leads are engaged in learning (£400).

During September a sign up facility will be added to the DfE’s website. In the meantime, schools are encouraged to:
- Reflect on your setting’s existing approach to mental health and wellbeing – you can use:
- the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) tool
- an approach developed by Oldham Council
- Leading Change, developed by the Anna Freud Centre
- Identify a senior mental health lead to receive training to oversee your whole school or college approach
- Consider the specific learning needs your senior lead may wish to develop, with reference to the
