Year 1 ECTs – April 2023 Cohort

This news page is for all Early Career Teachers who are started their ECF programme with Generate Teaching Hub in April 2023.

Completing Term 2

We are almost at the end of the Autumn Term and heading towards the Christmas Break. However, we all know that between now and then there will be so much to do in school. Whether you work with very young children, adolescents or young adults it really is a magical time of year. Amongst the “busyness” make sure you take the time to look back and reflect on how far you have come.

You are almost at the end of your second term as a teacher – CONGRATULATIONS! You will also be meeting with your Induction Tutor to complete your next Progress Review so take this opportunity to celebrate your achievements and progress over the last term.

Module 5 – Seminar 1: Developing pupils’ reading & writing

After the Christmas Break, you will move onto Module 5 of the ECF, with Seminar 1 focussing on: Developing pupils’ reading and writing.

Did you know that by the age of 15, 25% of pupils have a reading age of 12 years or under?

We all know that literacy acts as one of the key barriers to preventing pupils for accessing the curriculum and achieving success at school. As teachers, how can we can help to address the problem by effectively supporting pupils reading and writing development. This module will help you to reflect on how you are currently supporting all pupils to be successful. It will provide you with strategies that you can implement into your practice to further build or refine what you are already doing.

In the first seminar, you will consider how you can support your pupils by explicitly teaching strategic reading strategies and breaking complex writing tasks down into manageable steps.

Driver Youth Trust

The materials for the module have been designed in conjunction with the Driver Youth Trust.

The Driver Youth Trust are an organisation that seeks to improve the education system to achieve better outcomes for young people with persistent literacy difficulties.
