Year 1 ECTs – September 2023 Cohort – January Update

This news page is for all Early Career Teachers who are started their ECF programme with Generate Teaching Hub in September 2023.

Welcome Back

The Christmas Break is now a distant memory and we are now well into the Spring Term!

Members of the hub team have been out and about attending some of the ECT and Mentor seminars. It’s been great to share what’s happening with our colleagues from Teach First who have also enjoyed visiting your schools or dropping in on one of your online sessions.

Survey Thanks

A huge thank you to those of you who have completed the Teach First mid-point survey.

We are looking forward to receiving the results and looking at how we can use your responses to shape the ECF for ECTs and Mentors in future cohorts.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us if you would like to share your thoughts on your ECF training.

Focus on Questioning

Your ECF training, this term, will focus on questioning and how we can use it to extend and challenge thinking.

Questioning is one of the most widely studied elements in teacher research, therefore we do know a significant amount of what effective questioning entails. It’s useful to ask yourself the following:

  • What is the purpose of your question?
  • Are you taking the opportunity to ask questions that extend and challenge your pupils’ thinking?

Your first seminar will share key strategies for asking questions that support knowledge recall, but then extend beyond this to stretch pupil understanding and challenge their application of knowledge to different contexts.

For any questions about your training or the ECF offer from Generate Teaching Hub please contact ecf@wpat.uk.
