First Term in Teaching
We are almost at the end of the Autumn Term and heading towards the Christmas Break. However, we all know that between now and then there will be so much to do in school. Whether you work with very young children, adolescents or young adults it really is a magical time of year.
Amongst the “busyness” make sure you take the time to look back and reflect on how far you have come. You are almost at the end of your first term as a teacher – CONGRATULATIONS!
You will also be meeting with your Induction Tutor to complete your first professional progress review so take this opportunity to celebrate your achievements and progress this term.
Module 3 – What makes classroom practice effective?
After the Christmas Break, you will begin Module 3 of your ECT Programme – What makes classroom practice effective?
One of the main goals of teaching is to develop pupils’ conceptual knowledge, but this can be particularly challenging for teachers, especially when teaching pupils about unfamiliar or abstract concepts. This is where high-quality explanations play an essential role.
In the first seminar of this module, you will learn how to further strengthen the quality of your explanations by using examples and non-examples effectively to develop pupils’ conceptual understanding.
It’s important to remember that we often learn what something is, by knowing what it isn’t.
