Year 2 ECTs – April & May 2024 Update

This news page is for all Early Career Teachers who are starting their second year of the ECF programme with Generate Teaching Hub this term.

Welcome back!

We hope you had a restful and relaxing Easter Break with an opportunity to refresh and recharge ready for the busy term ahead.

Welcome to the April 2023 Cohort who are now joining our Generate Hub Cohorts of Year 2 ECTs. You should have received your phase or subject specific cohort details from Jen Hamer, our ECF Project Co-ordinator. Please do contact her if you are still awaiting information about Year 2 ecf@wpat.uk For Year 2 of your ECF training, you will work with colleagues from across our hub areas of Halton, Warrington and Wigan.

This is a great opportunity to find out about other settings, to learn from each other and to share your experiences and thinking. Training is tailored to your phase or subject to enable you to develop knowledge and skills that are specific to your setting, age range or subject building on the content from Year 1.

Schools are learning communities and, as teachers, we are always learning. We are never afraid of trying something new if it benefits the children and young people in our care. As you travel through Year 2 of the ECF, we would love to know what YOU have learnt over the last year.

What’s the one thing that you would share with other ECTs?

What have you done / heard / read / tried that has really impacted on your practice?

Get in touch and tell us! It would be great to share your stories with other teachers, then we can learn from each other. Email your thoughts to Jen Hamer ecf@wpat.uk

Let’s talk! – Development Cycle 5

We know that learning is consolidated through talk and discussion. High quality talk plays an important role in pupils’ learning and literacy, so the purpose of Development Cycle 5 is to explore strategies for utilising talk effectively.

Throughout the seminars and resources available on Brightspace, you will focus on:

  • Developing high quality oral language.
  • Developing reading and writing in all curriculum areas.
  • Developing structured talk and writing.
  • Developing ‘Accountable Talk’ in your classroom.

There are a number of strategies to explore which can support you in this:

  • A dialogic approach to questioning.
  • Scaffolds for talk.
  • Sustained shared thinking.

For any questions about your training or the ECF offer from Generate Teaching Hub please contact ecf@wpat.uk.
