Year 2 ECTs

This news page is for all Early Career Teachers who are starting their second year of the ECF programme with Generate Teaching Hub this term.

Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to Year 2 ECTs who are new to Halton, Warrington and Wigan and are new to Generate Teaching Hub!

We will continue to join you on your Early Career Teacher journey and support you through the training and development of the Early Career Framework. It was lovely to see so many of you at your Induction Days!

You should now have the dates and times for your training seminars. Please ensure that these are shared with your headteacher and Induction Tutor as they will need to make provision for you to attend all of the sessions.

Statutory Requirement

We do know that schools are very busy places and there are often conflicting priorities. However, the ECF is a statutory requirement and builds on your prior learning, so it is essential that you attend all the sessions. If you have any questions, require any guidance or support then do get in touch. Our team details are at the start of this bulletin and alongside your local leads and the facilitators who will be leading your sessions, we are all here to help.

Development Cycle 1 Seminar

We are now well into the Autumn Term and Year 2 of your ECF journey.

Many of you will have already had your Development Cycle 1 Seminar and used this as a basis for conversations with your mentor and other colleagues in school.

As your ECF training is now subject/phase focused, you will have the opportunity to share good practice with colleagues who are working within the same phase of subject area. This is crucial to the development of all teachers – we learn so much from each other and we know that we are never alone.

Devlopment Cycle 2

The focus of Development Cycle 2 is: Supporting Pupils to Develop Subject Specific Skills.

During your seminar and through your self-directed study, you will:

  • Understand why it is important to identify the component parts of a skill.
  • Explore the differences between novice and expert learners.
  • Know how to use verbal and graphical representations to support the progression of skills.
  • You will reflect on your current practice and identify areas for development when planning teaching key skills.

This Development Cycle will really unpick the relationship between subject knowledge and knowledge of how to teach. I’m sure that you are now beginning to see how the ECF is building on your prior knowledge, from Year 1 and your Initial Teacher Training, and allowing you to apply this in the new context of the classes and groups that you teach.

Please ensure all the seminar dates and times are safely in your diaries! Contact ecf@wpat.uk if you would like these resending.

For any questions about your training or the ECF offer from Generate Teaching Hub please contact ecf@wpat.uk.
